Undergraduate volunteers

We are continually seeking outstanding undergraduate volunteers looking for laboratory experience in multiple areas. Students interested, please send an email to Dr. Marcelo Febo (febo@ufl.edu).

Special opportunities for undergraduate volunteers
  • Biomedical or electrical engineer to help develop MR imaging preclinical technologies

We are seeking an outstanding undergraduate volunteer to work on a newly funded project “Preclinical Imaging of Adolescent Cannabidiol on Brain Structure and Functional Connectivity”. The student will design and construct an MRI coil for novel applications in awake mice MRI (Figure 1 and 2).  The student will work directly under the supervision of a postdoctoral researcher. The position will be hosted at the McKnight Brain Institute (MBI), and the selected student will be able to interact with scientists, engineers, and physicists at the MBI. The position requires previous experience with AutoCAD or similar 3D design software. The student will continue work underway in the lab with the goal of designing, 3D printing, and constructing an MRI coil for mouse imaging. Ultimately, the coil will allow reducing motion during awake fMRI (Figure 3). With this work, the selected student will have the opportunity to submit this work as an undergraduate honors thesis, share research in scientific conferences at UF, besides learning MRI acquisition and analysis techniques. Students interested, please send an email to Dr. Luis M. Colon-Perez (lcolon@ufl.edu).
